Enhancing Nature

NatureScope assesses and develops projects, plans and activities with the aim of contributing to a positive development for nature and biodiversity.

This is done through a step-by-step and iterative process including nature assessment, design development and planning.

Our contributions:

  • Free screening
  • Nature impact assessment (EIA and SEA), or
  • Nature due diligence
  • Nature positive design
  • Nature planning

The above services are always based on detailed analysis and mapping of nature values, habitats and species in the affected areas.

Values

Nature positive

NatureScope engages in projects, plans and activities having the potential to create more nature and net gains for biodiversity. The goal is to contribute to help reversing the negative trend for nature and biodiversity, which has far too long been the norm in Denmark and beyond. While efforts are being made to create new nature, e.g. in public nature restoration programs, existing nature is still cleared or deteriorating leading to a continuing loss of biodiversity. NatureScope's mission therefore is to work for initiatives that preserve and improve existing nature, and at the same time create new nature and better conditions for biodiversity.

Sustainability

NatureScope supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This means that we only work on projects that, in addition to preserving and creating new nature, also contribute positively to an overall sustainable development. Therefore, we also look into an initiative's contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.  Preservation and enhancement of nature and biodiversity will itself support many of the Sustainable Development Goals, e.g. general environmental protection, human health and well-being, clean water, sustainable cities and climate action - and vice versa. Therefore, the efforts are interconnected.

We do not...

Projects, plans, and activities that impose excessive costs on the environment, nature and biodiversity fall outside NatureScope's field of work. When new initiatives or ongoing activities degrade environment and nature values, the damage is often irreversible or requires many years—sometimes decades—to restore. For this reason, NatureScope does not support initiatives such as establishment of new highways or projects within conventional agriculture where climate impacts and the deterioration of environment and nature is obviously undermining sustainability. With NatureScope, we have chosen a different path.
